Monuments

Have you ever visited an historical monument and been in awe of the significance of the person, place, or event that was represented?  The Washington Monument was created as a show of gratitude to George Washington in helping to create a new form of government espousing freedom and liberty.  The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France to memorialize the alliance of the two countries in the American Revolution and their abiding friendship.  Arlington National Cemetery is a monument to over 240,000 soldiers and service members who served our country with honor.  The remembrance of great people, places and events makes us stronger.  It gives us confidence as we remember our country’s proud heritage and the sacrifices that have been made to keep us strong.

As I was praying this morning, I began to recall monuments that God has placed in my life.  God is always with us, but there are significant moments in our lives where we see His hand at work.  From time to time, I try to recount those moments to remember what God has done.  There have been times of great struggle where He has done what seemed impossible.  There have been times when God has poured out abundant blessings beyond imagination.  As I recall those monuments, I’m reminded of God’s great power, His unending love, and His matchless grace.  My spirit grows stronger and my commitment to Him grows deeper.

Remember God’s monuments in your life.  Write them down or recall them as you pray from time to time.  Recount the monuments with your family so they will know of their rich heritage in God.  It’s amazing what that act of worship will do to strengthen your faith in Him!
